Richmond RCMP say they have "identified" and "located" the suspect allegedly responsible for the assault of a librarian at a community meeting on housing Wednesday evening.

Cpl. Dennis Hwang said, via  a news release, the apparent assault, caught on video, was unrelated to the community presentation being held at Richmond Public Library.

Hwang alluded to people misjudging the incident.

“This was an isolated incident that was not racially or ethnically motivated," said Hwang.

"We remind people to exercise a critical lens in what they see, hear, or read before any judgements are made".

Hwang said there will be no more updates at this time.

The News has asked RCMP if the suspect is known to them or has mental health issues and whether charges are being considered.

Police have yet to respond.
