Steveston Outdoor Pool’s opening will be delayed this year after its fibreglass lining failed.

It’s unclear when the pool will be open.

“The solution is being explored and staff will provide further information on the anticipated opening date when further information is available,” notes a manager’s report to the city’s public works and transportation committee.

City spokesperson Ted Townsend said when maintenance workers drained the 44-year-old pool in March, they discovered that both the large and small pools had significant failures in multiple areas.

“Staff are working on options to return the pool to service and expect to report back to council in near future,” stated Townsend via email.

In the meantime, Kigoos swim club will use other municipal pools and the city said it may open South Arm Pool earlier than scheduled.
