Police are appealing for witnesses after a motorcyclist was killed in Steveston on Tuesday afternoon.

Just after 2:30 pm, Richmond Mounties responded to a serious crash at Fourth Avenue and Chatham Street involving a Harley Davidson motorcycle and a Coast Mountain bus.

According to the police, the motorcycle was heavily damaged in the accident and its rider, a man in his early 40s, sustained critical injuries and was rushed to hospital. The man, from Fort McMurray, Alberta, later succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the bus was uninjured and has been cooperative with police.

“We are in the very early stages of our investigation,” said Richmond RCMP’s Cpl. Dennis Hwang.

“The (Fourth Avenue) and Chatham Street area was fairly populated during the time of the collision.

“Our investigators spoke to several people who heard the crash but were unable to provide further details. We are looking for witnesses who may have left the area prior speaking with us.”

Hwang also urged drivers passing through the area with dash-cams to review their footage for anything that may be able to help with the investigation.
