RCMP officers are scouring the Ikea parking lot in Richmond after they received multiple reports of shots fired around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.
The suspects fled the parkade at 3320 Jacombs Rd. before police arrived and "miraculously no one was injured," according to an RCMP news release. Police don't know why the shots were fired.
Several evidence markers were in place as Richmond Mounties cordoned off a large section of the covered lot. Around 6:30 p.m., officers were shining flashlights on the ceiling insulation, bits of which had fallen to the ground of the parkade, apparently looking for bullet entry points. The news release said there was no property damage and the store remained open.
Some shocked customers had to get their cars out from behind the police tape.
Richmond Mounties are asking witnesses or anyone with information to contact them at 604-278-1212, or leave an anonymous tip with CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
Liza Ahyeng returned to the parkade after shopping with her husband and small children.
She hadn't heard the shooting and so was shocked to see police searching the area.
"It's so scary. We were going to park in this area," she said. "It is so surprising."
