Richmond Public Library received an infusion of Curious George, Dr. Seuss, and other classic books, when 3,200 children’s titles were added to the collection in time for Family Literacy Day last Sunday.

Shelley Civkin, communications officer at the library, said the books were purchased with funds from the annual $400,000 provincial grant.

“We’re always needing to add to the children’s collection — things go missing, books get donated. It’s such a high-traffic collection, it was time to buy more classics and more popular books for kids of all ages,” said Civkin.

On Jan. 25, Richmond MLA John Yap, was at the Brighouse library on behalf of the Ministry of Education to proclaim Jan. 27 Family Literacy Day. Fellow MLAs, Rob Howard and Linda Reid were also there to perform readings.

“It’s a great event. We were able to read to kindergarten children who were excited by the event and the chance to check out the brand new books,” said Yap.
