It is less than a month until The Sharing Farm’s annual garlic festival and things are getting busy on the farm. It’s our 10th anniversary this year, so things are even bigger and better than usual.
This year, we are partnering with the City of Richmond to create an even more exciting and eclectic festival. Along with our usual fabulous gourmet foods and diverse local farmers market, expert bird handlers will educate and entertain with live flying demonstrations of native birds of prey. Attendees will be able to watch these birds perform a number of flying maneuvers, acrobatics and speed and dexterity drills.
Of course, the highlight of the festival will continue to be the aromatic plant itself. Alongside the Sharing Farm’s own garlic, BC Garlic and Maddock Ridge Farm will provide even more varieties of the popular bulb.
Top chefs have generously volunteered their time to showcase delicious garlic-laced dishes. Samantha Philips from Victory Gardens will be giving tips on growing your own, and who can resist sampling our famous garlic ice cream?
The festival will also feature live music, a large selection of The Sharing Farm’s own produce, an expanded farmers market, giveaways and a children’s area with family friendly fun.
The 10th Richmond Garlic Festival will happen this year on Sunday August 19th from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm. The Garlic Festival takes place at The Sharing Farm, located in award-winning Terra Nova Rural Park.
Terra Nova is a haven for bird life and consequently there are no dogs allowed in the park. We love our canine buddies, but unfortunately they won’t be able to join us.
This festival serves as The Sharing Farm’s largest fundraiser, supporting us in our work of providing food dignity and fresh local produce for low-income families.
