The “sandwich” generation — those with young children and aging parents — can benefit from Parenting Your Senior Parents on Oct. 20 from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Brighouse Branch of Richmond Public Library. Learn different approaches to dealing with the challenges of seniors who want to stay independent and remain at home. Information on home services and nursing homes will be provided.


If you’re passionate about ensuring access to nutritious, safe foods produced in environmentally sound and socially just ways, and enjoy discussing the subject, you’ll want to join the Richmond Food for Thought Book Club. The next meeting is Oct. 8 and the book to be discussed is The Stop: How the Fight for Good Food Transformed a Community and Inspired a Movement by Nick Saul and Andrea Curtis. The Richmond Food Security Society (RFSS) is partnering with Richmond Public Library to offer the free club on the second Wednesday of every month from October to June. If you like creative writing but English is not your first language then Telling Your Story for ESL Adults is the program for you for you. The Richmond Branch of the BC Registered Music Teachers Association will hold recitals starting at 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 19 at St. Alban Anglican Church (7260 St. Albans Road). First, the Richmond Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop, which helps raise funds for hospital equipment, patients and seniors in our community, is looking for volunteers for a variety of three to four-hour shifts. Experience with retail sales/cash an asset. Second, the Richmond Hospital Auxiliary Lottery Booth, which helps raise funds for hospital equipment, patients and seniors in our community, is looking for volunteers for a variety of shifts.
