Richmond’s Garlic Festival is back again for its 10th year, celebrating fresh, local garlic while raising funds for The Sharing Farm.

On Aug. 19 from 10 a.m. 3 p.m. at Terra Nova Rural Park, festival-goers can try garlic-inspired treats – including garlic ice cream – from Richmond-based restaurants, visit a farmers’ market, listen to live music, take a farm tour and learn how to grow garlic.

Three varieties of garlic will be highlighted at the festival: Russian red, which is a musky garlic and is very hot when eaten raw, music, a white-skinned garlic with a hint of pink and big, easy-to-peel cloves and purple Italian softneck, which is a braidable garlic with a mild flavour.

This year, the Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society, or OWL, will be in attendance, answering raptor-related questions and even possibly showing off some of their feathered friends.

“Eat tickets,” good for one serving from a participating local restaurant can be purchased for $5 while a “drink ticket” goes for $3.

All proceeds from the event go to support The Sharing Farm, a Richmond-based non-profit that grows local, organic produce for low-income families.
