On Wednesday, Richmond’s Community Mental Wellness Association of Canada hosted an open forum to promote mental wellness throughout the community.

A panel of speakers including Coun. Chak Au, Dr. Edwin Tam, Dr. Rosa Wu, Andrew Paquette, Dr. Ashutosh Kalsi and Dr. Gabriela Lonita shared their knowledge and insights on mental health from both professional and personal perspectives. Topics covered during the panel included anxiety, anger, depression, symptoms, prevention and treatment.

More than 60 people attended, including Mayor Malcolm Brodie, MP Joe Peschisolido, a representative from the ministry of mental health and addictions and other community leaders.

According to CMWAC, “the response from the audience was overwhelmingly positive, allowing CMWAC to take another big step forward in promoting mental wellness in the community.”

Two students were also awarded bursaries to pursue studies in mental health. This year, 32 applied from school districts across the Lower Mainland. Khushi Dabla and Melissa Wang were selected as recipients.
