Homeless bunnies benefit from yoga class

And this Easter Sunday (April 16), yoga lovers and first-timers also raised a bunch of money for local bunny rabbits in need of homes.

Clients at Sunberry Fitness in the east Cambie area took part in what has become a semi-regular event at the Richmond studio — a fundraiser for Bandaid for Bunnies, a local rabbit rescue and shelter organization.

The Easter Bunny Yoga class is the studio’s most popular, said Nancy Lin, who co-owns Sunberry Fitness with high school friend Julia Zu. When tickets for the event went on sale about a month ago, they sold out in two-and-a-half hours. Revenue from the sale went directly to the rabbit rescue charity.

“This year, we’ve raised more than $1,000 between the Easter and Valentine’s Day fundraisers,” said Lin in an email. “The fund goes to helping feed the bunnies and pay for their medical expense.”

Around 30 people took part in the event.

Lin added that all of the bunnies, who hopped around the studio floor and around their clients, are available for fostering and adoption.

There are two more bunny yoga fundraisers scheduled for 2017 — on June 4 and Sept. 24.
