Richmond firms nominated for small business awards

A total of five Richmond-based companies have been nominated in the annual Small BC Business Awards. True Conditioning, Nirvana Foods and Alinker Inventions Ltd. lead the way, each with a pair of nominations.

A total of five Richmond-based companies have been nominated in the annual Small BC Business Awards. True Conditioning, Nirvana Foods and Alinker Inventions Ltd. lead the way, each with a pair of nominations.

True Conditioning, which provides fitness classes that use a combination of suspension training that utilizes your own body weight as resistance when performing a variety of core strengthening exercises, has been nominated in the categories of best community impact and premier’s people’s choice.

Nirvana Foods, a family-owned specialty foods producer that started in Steveston in 2014 by producing a line of savoury pies has also been nominated in the premier’s people’s choice category, as well as the best immigrant entrepreneur category. Alinker Inventions Ltd., which was featured in the Richmond News (Empowering Richmond - with self-respect, May 13) also earned a pair of nominations for its three-wheeled bike that caters to those with limited or declining mobility.

The invention drew attention in the best innovation and best community impact categories. Also getting nominations were Fusion Brand and Phoenix Molecular Designs. Fusion Brand, a producer of fighter gear (apparel) for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu enthusiasts, was nominated in the premier’s people’s choice category. Phoenix Molecular Designs, develops cancer therapies by inhibiting kinases, a class of enzymes that have proven to be the most tractable drug targets in oncology, was nominated in the best innovation category.

The awards will be handed out Feb. 23, 2017 at the pan Pacific Hotel in Downtown Vancouver.
