The Richmond KidSport chapter visited Richmond Centre on Monday where it was presented a $15,000 donation from Cadillac Fairview's philanthropy program for empowering and inspiring youth.

The city’s largest shopping mall is the latest to step-up in a big way for the Richmond KidSport chapter.

Cadillac Fairview presented the non-profitable charitable organization a $15,000 donation on Monday at Richmond Centre. Accepting the cheque on behalf of Richmond Kidsport were board members Alexa Loo and Don Fisher.

The Richmond Kidsport donation is among 18 Cadillac Fairview is presenting to charities across Canada this year through its philanthropy program for empowering and inspiring youth — totalling $500,000. There were two other B.C. recipients — the Vancouver KidSport chapter and Covenant House Vancouver.

“Each year we evaluate various charities that we want to partner with. This year, we are very pleased to provide the $15,000 donation to KidSport Richmond,” said Richmond Centre Mall general manager Sheila Luft.

“We think that all kids should have the opportunity to play and build their leadership skills and team-building along with collaboration in communication. With that we think a donation with KidSport Richmond is a fantastic way to empower youth. It has a great reputation here in Richmond.”

Last year, Richmond Kidsport awarded $98,000 worth of grants to help local children be involved in 21 different sports from 38 organizations.

Of the 42 KidSport chapters in B.C., Richmond leads the way in awarding grants up to $500 per child thanks to the generousity of the business community.
