Multi-media and cutting-edge cultural mash-ups will be centre stage at the Your Kontinent Digital Carnival, part of the Richmond World Festival on Friday, Sept. 1 and Saturday, Sept. 2 in Minoru Park.

The Digital Carnival, produced by Cinevolution, features cutting-edge media works and site-specific installations by 23 local and national artists.

In response to Canada 150, the Carnival will shine a spotlight on the nation’s connections to the land and its ideas about community and home.

Visitors will discover a mix of performance art and theatre, audio/sound art, video projects, mixed media installations, projection mapping, generative work, shadow puppet theatre and interactive opportunities that incorporate current and emerging digital technologies.

Featured artist Cindy Mochizuki will present a multi-media performance reflecting on the choices forced on people by the impacts of war. The performance begins with historical materials from the artist’s grandmother and the internment of Japanese Canadians during the Second World War.

Elsewhere, more traditional cultural explorations will be featured in the festival’s Global Village and cultural pavilions.

A free celebration of music, food and culture, the Richmond World Festival will feature more than 75 music and dance performances on nine stages, including headline shows by popular Canadian rockers Tokyo Police Club and Korean hip-hop star Verbal Jint.
